Montgomery, AL — The Business and Enterprise Systems Product Innovation (BESPIN) Design Studio is set to host a cutting-edge human-centered design workshop during the second week of July in Montgomery, AL. This pioneering event will convene Airmen and representatives from various software factories across the Department of Defense (DoD), marking a significant step toward collaborative innovation in military software development.
The workshop centers on “How do we become versatile in an ever-changing battlefield?” It underscores the critical importance of agile software development in modern warfare. The event aims to foster a culture of rapid innovation and adaptability within the military’s digital infrastructure.
Participating organizations include:
- Kessel Run
- Cyberworks
- 563d Electronic Warfare Squadron (EWS)
- SpaceCAMP
- Defense Digital Services
- Singapore RAID Team
- Defense Science and Technology Agency, Singapore
This diverse group of participants will engage in intensive collaborative sessions, share best practices, explore new methodologies, and work toward solutions that can enhance the Air Force’s digital capabilities in real-time combat scenarios.
“Investing in User Experience is the difference between delivering a capability and just buying software. This Design Sprint is the first opportunity we’ve had to tackle our shared problems together,” said Elizabeth Fox, BESPIN Design Service Manager. “By bringing together the brightest minds from various software factories, we’re not just sharing knowledge – we’re creating a new paradigm for agile, responsive, and effective digital solutions for our warfighters. It’s a pivotal moment in our journey to revolutionize software development in the Air Force.”
The event aligns with BESPIN’s strategic goal to establish itself as the Design Center of Excellence for the U.S. Air Force and has been made possible by the Program Year 2024 Strategic Funding Increase, or STRATFI, contract awarded June 25, 2024. By spearheading this initiative, BESPIN is reinforcing its position as the Mobile Software Center of Excellence for the entire Department of Defense.
Key objectives of the workshop include:
- Exploring innovative approaches to human-centered design in military software
- Developing strategies for rapid prototyping and deployment of digital solutions
- Fostering inter-agency collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Identifying emerging technologies and methodologies that can enhance battlefield versatility
The outcomes of this workshop are expected to have far-reaching implications for how the Air Force and broader DoD approach software development, potentially leading to more efficient, effective, and adaptable digital tools for service members across all branches.
BESPIN is a software solution center chartered to build the U.S. Air Force Mobile Center of Excellence and scale cloud and mobile application development across the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense.
